EXPLANATION ON TWELVE LINKS OF DEPENDENT ORIGIONATION -
UNDERSTANDING KARMA
DATE: Sunday 29th March
TIME: 9am - 5pm
COST: Members $80 Non-members $100
In this course, Venerable Geshe Lobsang Dorjee, will give a general explanation of the meaning of dependent links in understanding Karma, but it is very important, as we must know what dependent links in the form of defilements means, (created from actions/karmas of our three doors (body, speech and mind)). The defilements that cause us suffering, and remain in samsara. All beings are alike in wanting happiness, liberation from samsara. To fulfil this wish we have to know how we are born again and again in this cyclic existence.
The purpose of learning about the twelve links of dependent origination is to achieve the goal of reaching the highest states of samsaric existence, and also to gain freedom from this samsaric realm. Through understanding these twelve links we will understand how we are reborn time and time again, and this understanding will help us to avoid being reborn in the lower, or suffering realms.
So what is Samsara? Samsara is a state of being born again and again through the force of ignorance and throwing karma. Freedom from this state is liberation means being liberated from the bondage of cyclic existence. It is like a man bound to a tree with ropes. We are like the tree, ignorance and throwing karma are the ropes that bind us, and liberation is freedom from the bondage of these ropes. Therefore the freedom from the bondage of ignorance and throwing karma is liberation or nirvana.
And to know how, and why we are caught in this chain of cyclic existence will bring us closer to wanting to free ourselves, and eventually help others to be free from this bonding of samsara. Only then we will find our life more meaningful and happier.
Participants are also encouraged to bring a shawl, water bottle and note book. Seating in chairs or cushions on the floor are provided
