The 8 Mahayana Precepts

Benefitting Others

Whatever crisis we are facing right now, it comes from our negative thoughts. The good news is that these negative thoughts can be transformed into virtuous thoughts. There are many methods to train our minds the right way. One method that we can apply is taking the Eight Mahayana Precepts.

These eight precepts are taken before dawn in a short ceremony and are observed for 24 hours. When we have received the oral transmission from a qualified Mahayana spiritual teacher, we can observe the eight precepts at any time in the future.

The Eight Mahayana Precepts enable us to live in pure ethical conduct. As we observe the precepts with the strong motivation of cherishing the welfare of others, the benefits derived are immeasurable.

Dharma Quote

" Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers,
but to be fearless in facing them.
Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain,
but for the heart to conquer it.
Let me not crave in anxious fear to be saved,
but for the patience to win my freedom. "

Shantideva, The Way of the Bodhisattva
