In the Tradition and under the Spiritual Guidance of

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama

We all have the ability to obtain the bliss and happiness of peace.
Venerable Geshe Doga

The Centre is an affiliate of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition, an organisation founded in the early 1970s by Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche.

Tara Institute, through the guidance of Venerable Geshe Doga, offers programs to suit beginners and advanced students aspiring to gain inner peace through the study and practice of Mahayana Buddhism.

Everyone is welcome to come to the Centre to learn and apply whatever Buddhist practices and teachings are most useful and meaningful in their lives.

As a visitor or member, you can participate in the regular weekly teaching program, weekend or one day courses, pujas and social events. We invite children aged 4 to 15 years to attend the monthly Dharma club where we hope to inspire children to practice a healthy way of life.

Please visit our Bookshop and Dining Room and feel welcome to browse this site for more information.

If you can’t find the answers you seek:

  • visit Tara Institute at 3 Mavis Avenue, Brighton East, Victoria (Please note; the Centre is closed over the weekend unless there is an event running; also note that there are parking restrictions along Mavis Avenue.)
  • call our office on (03) 9596 8900 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.  The phone is not attended after hours or over the weekend.

Dharma Quote

Do not accept any of my words on faith, believing them just because I said them. Be like an analyst buying gold, who cuts, burns, and critically examines his product for authenticity. Only accept what passes the test by proving useful and beneficial in your life.
